GLINDA THE GOOD WITCH. In "The Wizard of Oz," Glinda the Good Witch can usually be categorized as playing the "Good Mother." However, Glinda possesses some qualities of the The Wise Old Man. In some scholarly articles, the adviser to the hero through out their journey is not only limited to men, but can be portrayed in women as well. Glinda advices Dorothy on her journey to the Wizard of Oz and serves as a guide in much of her journey. As much as people may argue she possesses traits of the Good Mother, Glinda can also be categorized as being the new definition of the Wise Old woman. This has deepened the understanding of women's role as not only the femme fatale or the good mother, but the importance of a wise woman as well.

Morgan Freeman. In "Bruce Almighty," Morgan Freeman plays the most well-known depiction of the Wise Old man figure. This figure is God. I thought this was interesting because readers and film watchers never really see this archetype as being black. When googling images of the Wise Old man, they usually had the same of a white man with grey or white hair. Morgan Freeman still plays on some characteristics of the Wise Old man by having on white clothes on in the film and having grey-white hair. He is the voice of reason for Bruce through out the whole movie and raises an interesting question about how race influences these archetypes as well.
